Nationwide, there was a 2.4 percent decrease in the number of persons arrested in 2009 compared with the number of persons arrested in 2008.
The number of juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested in 2009 decreased 8.9 percent from the number of juveniles arrested the previous year.
The number of persons arrested for violent crimes decreased 2.3 percent from 2008 to 2009.
The number of juveniles arrested for violent crimes in 2009 dropped 10.5 percent when compared with data for 2008.
The 2-year trend showed that the number of persons arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter declined 4.8 percent, and the number of juveniles arrested for this offense decreased 9.0 percent.
The number of adults arrested for property crime in 2009 increased 3.9 percent, but the number of juveniles arrested for property crime decreased 4.7 percent when compared with data for 2008.
