The number of males arrested in 2009 decreased 5.2 percent, but the number of females arrested increased 1.4 percent when compared with figures from 2005.
The number of males under age 18 arrested in 2009 declined 13.0 and the number of arrests of female juveniles declined 9.9 percent when compared with the 2005 data.
For the 5-year trend, the number of males arrested for violent crimes dropped 5.1 percent and the number of females arrested for these offenses decreased 0.8 percent.
A comparison of arrest data for 2009 with those for 2005 showed the number of males arrested for murder decreased 8.7 percent, and for females, the number of arrests decreased 13.5 percent.
Arrests of juveniles for violent crimes decreased in both genders in 2009 when compared with data for 2005. The number of arrests of male juveniles decreased 11.1 percent, and the number of arrests of female juveniles decreased 14.5 percent.
The 5-year trend indicated that the number of males arrested for property crimes declined 1.2 percent, but the number of females arrested for property crimes climbed 24.2 percent.
Arrests of male juveniles for property crimes in 2009 declined 6.8 percent when compared with the 2005 number, but arrests of female juveniles for property crimes during the same time period increased 11.4 percent.
