A comparison of data for 2005 and 2009 showed that the number of persons arrested in 2009 decreased 3.7 percent. The number of adults arrested declined 2.1 percent, and the number of juveniles (individuals under age 18) arrested fell 12.1 percent.
The number of persons arrested for violent crimes in 2009 declined 4.3 percent when compared with the 2005 number. Arrests of juveniles for violent crimes decreased 11.7 percent for the same comparison period, and arrests of adults decreased 2.9 percent.
Arrests of persons for robbery offenses increased 9.3 percent in 2009 when compared with data for 2005. Arrests of juveniles for robbery rose 8.3 percent and arrests of adults for this offense increased 9.6 percent.
The number of persons arrested for property crimes in 2009 increased 7.0 percent when compared with 2005 data. Arrests of adults for property crimes increased 9.8 percent, and arrests of juveniles decreased 0.7 percent.
Arrests of persons for larceny-theft increased 15.1 percent in 2009 when compared with data for 2005. Arrests of adults for larceny-theft rose 18.0 percent, and arrests of juveniles increased 7.1 percent.
Arrests of persons for motor vehicle theft in 2009 dropped 43.5 percent when compared with the number of arrests made for this offense in 2005. Arrests of juveniles for motor vehicle theft fell 46.7 percent, and arrests of adults decreased 42.3 percent.
