Nationwide in 2009, the average dollar value per motor vehicle stolen was $6,505. The average dollar value of property taken during burglaries was $2,096; during robberies, $1,244; and during larceny-thefts, $864.
By location, 42.8 percent of robberies occurred on streets or highways and 72.6 percent of burglaries occurred at residences.
Of the specific larceny-theft categories, the number of shopliftings increased 7.9 percent in 2009 when compared with the 2008 total. The category with the largest decrease over that time period was larceny-thefts of motor vehicle accessories, which declined 10.0 percent from the 2008 total.
Larceny-thefts involving property valued at more than $200 comprised nearly 45 percent (44.7) of all larceny-thefts.
