Nationwide, the number of males arrested in 2008 decreased 1.9 percent when compared with 2007 data. The number of females arrested decreased 0.3 percent.
Arrests of male juveniles (those under 18 years of age) decreased 3.3 percent, and arrests of female juveniles decreased 1.6 percent.
In 2008, both genders showed decreases in the number of persons arrested for violent crimes when compared with the figures for 2007 with arrests of males down 0.7 percent and arrests of females down 0.2 percent.
Arrests of male juveniles for violent crimes in 2008 declined 1.6 percent from the previous year. The number of female juveniles arrested for violent crimes decreased 3.7 percent.
The number of males arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased 3.6 percent, and the number of females arrested for this offense increased 3.0 percent.
The number of male juveniles arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased 5.1 percent. The number of female juveniles arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased 4.9 percent.
From 2007 to 2008, the number of property crime arrests increased for males, up 3.2 percent; females, up 10.3 percent; male juveniles, up 2.9 percent; and female juveniles, up 9.1 percent.
