Nationwide, the number of males arrested in 2008 decreased 3.1 percent, and the number of females arrested increased 11.6 percent when compared to figures for 1999.
A comparison of data for 1999 and 2008 showed that the number of male juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested dropped 18.7 percent, and the number of female juveniles arrested decreased 7.8 percent.
The number of males arrested for violent crimes in 2008 declined 6.2 percent from the number arrested in 1999, and the number of females arrested for violent crimes increased 1.4 percent when data for those same years were compared.
Arrests of male juveniles for violent crimes in 2008 were down 8.3 percent from the total for 1999, and the number of female juveniles arrested for violent crimes declined 10.0 percent.
The number of males arrested in 2008 for property crimes declined 6.0 percent when compared with the 1999 data, and the number of females arrested increased 19.7 percent.
Arrests of male juveniles for property crimes declined 27.9 percent, arrests of female juveniles for property crimes increased 0.8 percent.
The number of males arrested for driving under the influence decreased 6.6 percent; however, arrests of females for this offense increased 35.1 percent in 2008 when compared with data from 1999.
