- The estimated number of violent crime offenses in 2007 was more than
1.4 million (1,408,337) offenses, a decrease of 0.7 percent over the
2006 estimate.
- The estimated number of forcible rape offenses decreased 2.5 percent,
while all other violent crime offense estimates (murder and nonnegligent
manslaughter, robbery, and aggravated assault) declined slightly in 2007
when compared to the 2006 estimates.
- The rate for violent crime based on the estimated number of offenses
was 466.9 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2007, a decrease of 1.4 percent
when compared with 2006 data.
- Violent crime rates in all offense categories declined in 2007 when
compared to 2006 rates
- The rate for murder was 5.6 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants in 2007,
a 1.3 percent decrease when compared with the rate for 2006.
- The estimated number of property crimes in 2007 was nearly 10 million
(9,843,481) offenses, a 1.4-percent decrease from the 2006 estimate.
- The estimated number of motor vehicle theft offenses decreased 8.1
percent, while the two remaining property crime offenses (burglary and
larceny-theft) declined slightly in 2007 when compared with the 2006
estimates.
- The property crime rate for 2007 (3,263.5 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants)
was down 2.1 percent when compared with 2006 data.
