The FBI collects these data through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.
General comments
- All information in this table is as of October 31, 2006.
- This table provides the number of law enforcement employees, the number of law
enforcement officers, and the number of civilian employees for each participating law
enforcement agency listed alphabetically by state by city.
- The UCR Program defines law enforcement officers as individuals who ordinarily carry a firearm and a badge, have full arrest powers, and are paid from government funds set aside specifically for payment of sworn law enforcement representatives.
- Civilian employees include personnel such as clerks, radio dispatchers, meter attendants, stenographers, jailers, correctional officers, and mechanics provided that they are full-time employees of the agency.
