  • The number of persons arrested in the Nation’s suburban areas increased 1.0 percent in 2006 from the previous year’s figure.
  • The number of persons arrested increased 0.2 percent for violent crime and decreased 3.9 percent for property crime.
  • The number of persons in all age groups arrested for robbery increased 9.6 percent in 2006 compared with the 2005 figure; the number of juveniles (persons under age 18) arrested for this crime rose 21.5 percent.
  • In suburban areas, the number of persons arrested for all alcohol-related offenses increased in 2006. The number of persons arrested for liquor law violations increased 7.4 percent, the number of juveniles arrested for this offense rose 9.6 percent. Persons of all ages arrested for drunkenness increased 4.5 percent, and arrests of juveniles for drunkenness rose 20.4 percent. Total arrests for driving under the influence increased 3.5 percent; the number of juveniles arrested for this offense increased 4.4 percent.
  • The number of arrests for drug abuse violations in suburban areas increased 2.5 percent overall and for adults. The number of arrests of juveniles for this offense rose 2.4 percent.
