Offense Analysis, United States, 2002–2006
- In 2006, the estimated number of robbery offenses increased 6.3 percent when compared with the 2002 estimate.
- Residential robberies increased nearly 13 percent (12.9) in 2006 when compared with 2002 data and increased 8.1 percent when compared with 2005 data.
- For robberies that occurred on streets and highways, the 2006 estimate was 10.7 percent higher than the estimate in 2002.
- There was a 9.4-percent increase in the estimated number of bank robberies between 2006 and 2005.
- The estimated number of burglaries of residences was 2.1 percent higher in 2006 than the 2002 estimate.
- The 2006 estimated number of the larceny-thefts by shoplifting decreased 11.5 percent when compared with the 2002 estimate and has decreased 7.2 percent when compared with 2005 data.
- The estimated number of larceny-thefts in 2006 where items stolen were valued at less than $50 per incident decreased 12.8 percent when compared with the 2002 estimate.
- The estimated number of motor vehicle thefts decreased 4.3 percent in 2006 when compared with the 2002 estimate.
