The FBI collects these data through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.
General comments
- All information in this table is as of October 31, 2005.
- This table includes data for both sworn law enforcement officers and civilian employees for each participating law enforcement agency in metropolitan and nonmetropolitan counties listed alphabetically by city by state.
- The UCR Program defines law enforcement officers as individuals who ordinarily carry a firearm and a badge, have full arrest powers, and are paid from governmental funds set aside specifically for law enforcement.
- Civilian employees include personnel such as clerks, radio dispatchers, meter attendants, stenographers, jailers, correctional officers, and mechanics provided that they are full-time employees of the agency.
