John K. Mullen – Associate Executive Assistant Director, FBI National Security Branch
John K. Mullen was appointed by Director Mueller as the Associate Executive Assistant Director of the FBI’s National Security Branch on August 31, 2009. In this role, he will assist with the continued integration of intelligence disciplines with traditional operations.
Mr. Mullen previously served as an Operations Officer in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He has extensive overseas experience, with assignments in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe during his 24-year career at the CIA.
Among the awards he received for operational and leadership excellence at the CIA are a Special Achievement Award, a National Clandestine Service Award for Operational Excellence, and a Meritorious Unit Citation Award.
Mr. Mullen earned a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University in 2009. He also received Bachelor of Arts degrees in chemistry and in English language and literature from the University of Washington in 1983.
Mr. Mullen speaks Japanese, French, and Mandarin Chinese. He is married and has two teenage sons.
